OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
HOW OUR STORY BEGAN
Moved by the needs of families with children in the heartlands, the late Mrs. Doreen Cheong founded Woodlands Social Centre (WSC) in 1999. Our office was first housed in the neighbouring church building, Woodlands Evangelical Free Church, and we began offering services such as a reading programme for children and a bursary programme for those in financial need. In 2000, Evangel Student Care Centre was set up to provide after-school care for children with working parents.
We later moved into our current premises at Blk 830. In addition to a unit for our main office, we opened an activity centre in the unit next door. This expansion in space gave us opportunity to run more programmes, such as weekly tuition programmes for students.
In 2023, we completed a major refurbishment of both units and streamlined our programmes to offer better services for families with young children. Our new centre has conducive spaces for counselling services, engagement activities for all ages, and more!
